About me
I am an Artist, researcher, and educator based in County Mayo. I am currently studying Education in Art and Design in Limerick School of art and design (TUS).
My practice is informed by my own personal experiences with objectification as a woman. Using quite performative self-portraits I look at the societal expectations that are put on women. I examine moments I feel exposed and vulnerable in specific moments as a woman and the anxiety that I feel when my personal boundaries have been crossed.
In my practice I use photography to create extreme close-up portraits of myself putting the viewer in an uncomfortable position of invading ones personal boundaries.
Playing with lighting is a big factor of my work. Particularly in my current work I use bright lighting which acts as a spotlight putting the face and body in full visibility. The spotlight is used to reflect on the negative connotations that arise whilst being a woman and how as a woman I constantly feel judged. In my work I have fragmented my face and body into a series of pictures highlighting how women are dissected into objects and how women's bodies are oversexualised.
